Becoming
a People After God's Own Heart
By Dave Brooks,
Camp Director

The Theme
for the Navajo Reunion was "Becoming a People After God's Own Heart".
. It was my first experience being the
camp director at the Navajo Reunion. I will tell you now; my life will
never be the same. I would like to share with you some of the thoughts
I had and still have.
I had
some great concerns because several key people with great experience
could not attend this year's Reunion. I can testify to you that God
sent many new workers willing to serve. All of our workers were "
People after God's Own Heart". I really appreciated the dedicated work
and positive attitudes of all involved. I know that God blessed and
magnified their sacrifices
.I wish I
could mention the names of all the people attending and serving. A
great love comes to my heart as I think of these saints. I feel like
wrapping my arms around each one and making sure that they know how
much God loves them. I was able to see the power of God touching each
one as they went forward in faith and service.
This was
only my second Navajo Reunion, but God showed me that truly the
record
of the Book of Mormon is also the history of the Navajo and that they
will be restored unto the knowledge of their fathers. I know that the
Navajo will acknowledge Jesus Christ as the Son of God and that they
will greatly assist in the bringing forth of the Gospel among their
people.
<>The
Priesthood met each morning at 6:30 for a prayer service. This was a
blessed time because the Spirit of God was with us. It was really a
highlight for me to see 32 men come together in one accord and be so
greatly touched by the master.>
The
classes this year were great. I think all that attended were really
fed. I was excited to see the youth really respond and grow.
On
Tuesday afternoon, I came back from town to find the dining hall full
of children working on crafts. I then walked over to our 40 ft by 60 ft
tent that was used for our meetings and it was also full of children
and adults working on T-shirts. I began praying to God for all of the
people and all of the activities. My heart was filled with thanksgiving
and my soul was touched again by the outpouring of God's Spirit.
On
Wednesday afternoon we had six baptisms and on Thursday we had eight
more led into the waters of baptism. It was a blessed time to see the
faces of all that witnessed the services. We listened with thanksgiving
to the many testimonies shared about each one of the candidates.
Friday
was Navajo Day and many thanks go to the family that opened up their
hone
to us and for all the time and effort they put into this special day.
This was a day of celebration, truly a day of learning for all of us.
On
Saturday, as we broke camp, I really felt sad. I was anxious to go
home, but was surely going to miss this week. I had been in the midst
of God's people and His Spirit for a whole week without any outside
interruptions. What a glorious time!
We only
had time for two campfires because of the length of the spirit-led
services. God was with us in whatever we seemed to do. We all wanted to
glorify God and He blessed us greatly.
Please
pray for Leigh & Lois Reynolds and family living on the reservation
and giving a much needed ministry. Leigh is serving as Pastor of the
Navajo Restoration Branch after being ordained an Elder at the Reunion.
They have church every Sunday, but have to move from one camp to
another each Sunday. We are about ready to build a church building for
all the members to meet in. We need your prayers and support in this
endeavor. The work and the gospel must continue to go forth among the
Navajo people!
"But
before the great day of the Lord shall come, Jacob, shall flourish in
the wilderness; and the Lamanites shall blossom as the rose." D&C
49:5a
"Behold,
I say unto you, go Forth, as I have commanded you; repent of all your
sins; ask and ye shall receive, Knock and it shall be opened unto you."
D&C 49:5c.
It is my
prayer that God will bless all those who go forth to spread His work
here and in all places.
